English Homework for Monday, March 2, Day 5

CLASS ONE: First: read"Book Three" of The Odyssey." Then fill ot "What's important." Finally: complete the seven vocab squares (don't do squares for words you know.)

CLASS TWO: Complete your vocab squares.

CLASS FIVE (DUE TUESDAY): First: Read Book Three of "The Odyssey." Then: Fill out "What's Important." Finally: Complete the vocab squares.

Class Six: First: Read "Book Four-The King and Queen of Sparta" of "The Odyssey." Then: Fill out the "What's Important" sheet for Book Four. Since Book Four is so content rich (that is teacher-talk for "long"), you may need to use both sides of "What's Important." Thirdly: find three different epithets for each of the following mortals and immortals: Zeus, Poseidon, Calypso, Athena, Odysseus, Telemachus, and Nestor. Make certain that you reference the Book and line (s) of your epithet. For example: one epithet for Nestor is "noble charioteer," Book Three, line 76. And finally, draw an inference from the epithet (what does the epithet say about the character).
THIS IS A LONG ASSIGNMENT-DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO START IT.
If you don't remember what an epithet is, check your notes or read on: an epithet is an adjectival phrase-often a compound adjective such as "rosy-fingered Dawn, a descriptor, of a person/god, place, or thing that becomes a "tag line," that always identifies that character, place, or thing. Another example would be "wine-dark sea" rather than saying the Mediterranean Sea.
