English Homework fvor Tuesday, Day 4, April 29, 2008

Class One: You have two tasks-ONE: following the Retelling Rubric, retell Act III. Do not, however, include numbers 11 and 12. TWO: select what you consider to be the most important event of act III and explain why (5-8 sentences) you chose the event that you did.

Class Two: Quiz on Act III (multiple choice.)

class Five and Six: create word maps for the following words from Act Four: Inundation (4.1.12), slander ((4.1.34), treacherous (4.1.59), arbitrating (4.1.64), dismal (4.3.20), lamentable (4.5.21), deflowered (4.5.43), beguiled (4.5.61), sullen (4.5.94), and finally a word of your choosing for a total of ten words. If your map takes the format of a web, the center hub will contain the original word and its PART OF SPEECH. bubble #1 will put the word into its context from Act IV. bubble #2 will be your prediction of the word's meaning, bubble #3 will be the etymology of the word (where does the come from--the original source), bubble #4 will deconstruct the word (prefixes, suffixes, root and their respective meanings), bubble #5 will contain at least two synonyms, bubble #6 will contain at least two antonyms, and bubble #7 will contain word in a new sentences that clearly demonstrates the word's meaning. To successfully complete this assignment, you will need a good dictionary such as Random House Unabridged and a good Thesauris such as Roget's. An excellent website is www.dictionary. Happy hunting.
